I’m loving Mastodon but can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong? I’m not seeing anything in my local/community or federated timelines. They’re just blank. #newbie
@annehole I've got nothing under local either. Not sure how 'local' it is!
@Katiepiatt Glad it’s not just me. I think it’s supposed to be your instance/community (your social, my online).
@annehole Oh, I left the 'local' window open and just checked back (10 mins later) and it's full of stuff! Needed more patience I think.
@annehole I wish I knew, sorry.
I read this, which was really useful, if it helps you here?

Everything I know about Mastodon – Notes from a data witch

A hastily written guide for data science folks trying to navigate the fediverse.

Notes from a data witch
@annehole Also, I'm not sure what constitutes 'local' ... local = my server? It's certainly not local to me, geographically speaking.
@hopkinsdavid yes, I think it's your instance
@hopkinsdavid thanks David. Good to see so many of us making the move here. I'm sure we'll work it out 🙂
@annehole I think our instance is also having problems updating local feeds. I read that *somewhere* on mastodon, but now I can’t find it because it doesn’t seem possible to search the content of posts on Mastodon (not currently anyway). Plus, I’m primarily using the mobile apps and there’s no view of local versus federated feeds via that route, just my home feed.
@krisedtech thanks Kris. I'm very happy to be patient with Mastodon. Everyone's doing a fabulous job. As long as it's not me failing to tick an option somewhere
