I've been on Mastodon for only a couple of days and it feels really nice. Like Twitter in 2009 - yes, I have a vintage account there of the good old times.

I of course miss a lot of people, but I am discovering new ones. If the rate of growth is anything to go by, I think we might just pull it off and let the rich boy keep his broken toy?

@npariente agreed! I am sort of shocked at the rate that scientists are moving here. It's really exciting, and interesting. I'll be very interested to see if we can move back to posting about science at some point, but the new kid at school vibe is fun right now!

@mcsymbiont Agreed - and the science will come, I'm sure. We are too nerdy to think otherwise. I'm in the process of putting PLOS Biology on here. What I find nice is the mix of both science and life though.

I wasn't harassed on Twitter and did learn a lot and met a lot of people, but increasingly my timeline was a lot of ads and of irrelevant posts - this will only get worse with the new "authentication" system

@npariente @mcsymbiont we've had a fair bit of people tooting about science and having actual conversations about research in genomic.social, I'm sure everyone will settle into their usual content once they feel settled and have found all of their friends.
@Amandatron89 @npariente That's great! And there is lots of science here, too. And of course all of the intros are science-y, too! It's fun.
