I was planning on sending a #SnootBBQ update when we hit 500 users, but I somehow missed that threshold as we're now sitting at 521 people in our film/tv loving community!

At some point this week, I will be shutting down the public signup option, and future users will have to be invited by current users to slow the influx as we balance community growth with community health. I hope you're all having fun on the fediverse!

And some in-the-weeds info… Our server deal with masto.host says we should comfortably be able to handle 500 "active" users, which I suspect is what we are hitting soon.

I just paid to upgrade our plan to a swankier option, but I'm not sure how long it will take to upgrade the server. Another reason why I will be pausing signups at some point this week. I want to make sure we don't have the same slowdown hits that the larger instances have had this last week.

ok lol, the server upgrade apparently happened while I was writing these posts. The future is fast!

For now, I'll be keeping the #SnootBBQ public invites open until we hit 1000 users. Depending on the shape of the community then, I'll decide if it makes more sense to keep public invites open longer or switch to requiring an invitation.

@keith So did you create the snoot server?
@RobertFlowersTV I admin the server, but it’s hosted by masto.host
