@Kinniska Maybe they're getting slammed with trolling? And I'm sure there are a ton of academics still trying to get in.

This and other academically oriented servers are going to have to scale up fast, or it will defeat the purpose of academics coming here in the first place.

I also worry that the massive influx of academics is more about anxious egos rushing to the megaphone than wanting to find interesting discussions.

@meg oh I’m sure there’s a whole welter of factors going on (and yeah the egos..:although I’m accustomed to the older and less tech savvy academics)

@meg I expect also that the next few days and couple weeks will be a bumpy UX ride given the mass migrations as newcomers locate all the light switches and push all the buttons and carry over Twitter neuroses. I have compassion for the admins.

@echo @meg I’m just happy that even tho I’m on instance A, I can still follow and interact with whomever from instances B C D X G PQ etc, all on my dash.

Can you (pl) follow/like anything at scholar.social? My instance (c.im) doesn't seem to be capable of interacting with them at all, but the admin's feed there makes no mention of blocking c.im

@PYMundGenealogy @meg I haven’t poked at their directory page. However, apart from the big influx of new users inevitably causing all kinds of admin and downtime stuff across the fediverse, I’ve noticed that I need to specifically search individual names /url , and I can’t help but wonder if that’s partly to prevent some of the automated chicanery of bots and trolls (hence you can’t just search on a word).

TLDR I think some of this will sort itself out over time?

@meg @PYMundGenealogy that’s odd, but I can only surmise it’s to do with the influx? Admins having to scurry around trying to prevent crashes and limit demands on the server? I’m just spitballing tho. Sorry you’re experiencing this. But I have seen a bunch of admins from various servers saying “hey, yeah we are trying to fix things because suddenly huge numbers of new people” so .. ?
