@estelle Could be really nice! I'm currently tweaking the user styles, and yep, a lot of things could be improved to make things easier to adjust as well.

Main issue would be probably backwards compatibility — there are probably a lot of existing user styles/browser plugins etc., so maybe one thing that would need to be implemented first would be an ability to add and switch themes?

@kizu @estelle updating this wouldn't necessarily break any style plugins. If I understand this properly, it would just be a matter of moving things around so we can use CSS variables where needed.

@axolodev @estelle Yes, if we'd touch only the CSS and only the colors usage, without touching the declarations themselves, so anything relying on inheritance on a specific element's level won't change.

But so much more could be done if we could also change the underlying HTML and the way the styles are applied, but that would be a much bigger scope for sure :)
