Reminder to put your election news/coverage/opinions behind CWs over here! Also go vote if it’s Election Day where you are!
This is a content warning! It's part of Mastodon's culture. To use it, click on the CW button below where you are typing (I'm on the desktop browser, it may change depending on what you're using). This is a big part of the culture at Mastodon. Politics/election related stuff should all go behind CWs.
@skrishna Good tip and thanks for the heads up!
@skrishna On the android apps it appears as an exclamation point in a word balloon
@skrishna thanks for this tip. I’m deleting and reposting w a cw.
@sam_aye_ahm It's a really kind thing here that I hope we're able to maintain with our influx of Twitter culture
@skrishna I am not sure how to do this on the app but I’m learning that mastodon is easier for me to figure out on my desktop.
@sam_aye_ahm YES the apps kinda suck I’ve found, but the official one is getting worked o again thanks to the influx of new users + more money
@skrishna Is there a good list somewhere of typical CW warning labels and what is expected to be behind them?
@skrishna sorry, new; what does CW stand for?
@arnimf @skrishna "Content Warning"--usually appears as "CW" or am exclamation point in your toot composing interface. E.g. in the image attached. The content of the present CW is "Questions about CWs? Click below" at the top of my screen.
@arnimf @skrishna
my question, too. What’s a CW?
@skrishna thanks for the post.
@skrishna I've been a light mastodon user for a half decade now, and this is a bad part of mastodon's culture.
@skrishna how do you do that? I'm new here.
Notes from a data witch - Everything I know about Mastodon

A hastily written guide for data science folks trying to navigate the fediverse.

@skrishna how come? Seems really helpful to use for war content and such, but is it necessary for election opinions?
@skrishna I'm seeing people suggest this for all kinds of topics. Should just about everything be behind one? I had thought election coverage was something people are okay with seeing, and mere mentions of Twitter seem okay too. Just trying to understand.
@gfling No, it’s totally okay to ask. The culture with content warnings is different here. It’s not just trigger/trauma type stuff. I’ve seen people put stuff about baseball and soccer behind CWs. I’d say use your best judgment, while also recommending that anything that might cause anxiety to someone else go behind one.

@skrishna @gfling

So since reality needs a CW, is there a setting to make all comments and toots automagically put a CW on everything?

I found the setting to show CW marked things without having to tap.

@skrishna pssst, what’s a CW?
@jhale Content Warning! It’s the CW option when you post, used very liberally here especially for things like current events and politics!
