Another note for new #TwitterMigration folks like me: social norms here are that we don’t censor names like “Musk.” It shouldn’t be necessary, because full-text search isn’t really a thing and trolls are actually moderated.

If content is potentially offensive, put it behind a CW, but don’t “c*nsor” it because this breaks people’s filters (i.e., prevents them from being able to mute words).

@crookedfang @tkinias go to preferences, filters. Create a filter. On Mastodon, every posts that contains the exact text of your filter will be filtered out. You can choose if the post should be hidden behind [Filtered] or dropped entirely.

Note, this is about the web interface, apps usually handle it a bit differently, e.g. not showing the filtered posts at all.

Also it differes for other services in the Fediverse. Misskey for instance allows you to filter based on more complex expressions.
