All this talk of prehistoric animals reminds me of my granny's big soup bone that she found as a young girl. It was a petrified bone that she found in a ravine. She said she imagined a cave man cooking soup and this was the leftover soup bone. They used it as a door prop for many years before a big team came and excavated the site, recovering some complete skeletons.
Well, I contacted a researcher at the University of Texas yesterday and he sent me a photo today of some of the fossils found at my grandmother’s farm. In the lower left is a rhinoceros jawbone. These are 14-15 million years old. I am unable to load the photo because of slow server, but if/when the load lightens, I will add a photo. #fossils #rhinoceros #barstovian #miocene #Texas
Finally able to upload a photo. Here are the some of the fossils found at my grandmother’s farm in the 1930s and 1940s that are stored at the University of Texas in Austin. They found some rhinoceros and horse bones. 14-15 million years old. (No mastodon specimens, though)
@dragonflyknot Try uploading now. I had issues uploading pics before but I think the load on the server is better now.
