mastodon dot social should have their sign ups closed
most other instances aren't federated
it's got too many ppl and not enough mods last i checked
decentralized means de centralized

@CaribenxMarciaX And if not out-right defederating, I've been on instances that at least *silence* it.
Another frustration (well... frustration in one sense but not in many) is that not all instances are even listed on the instance-selection for JoinMastodon.org.
So I know that a few of us have been working with folks who want to move, want to avoid mastodon.social from the jump, and trying to make the connections happen.
Many people use it as an entry point into a seemingly complicated network. But every account there should have an expiration date: After 2-3 weeks people should be prompted to move their account.
It could be like the first area in an computer RPG, where you learn the ropes and maybe get some help by bots or people specifically there to help you. And then you should leave to more interesting places.
But this place is the opposite of that right now, worst of both worlds
I was on there for almost two years. I'd had my other account fairly soon, but there was some weird security issue between the newer account and my browser. So it was awhile before I could start using that one.
I still keep the .social account around for archival purposes.
