Hey, it should be if you typed something. I can check by long pressing on the image once I posted (or on other people's toots) and I can read part of the description above the filename. For some it's hovering over the image

I've had no luck with apps either I'm using the browser version (chrome\ firefox ) but on my android tablet if that helps

@AstridBears I don't see the alt text or how to access it, just your "Testing alt text" above the image. Clicking on the image just expands the image.

Ah, I think the issue was the mastodon app. Using Metatext now and I see the alt text on the original post.

@AstridBears Same here. With the Mastodon app I couldn't see the timelines. I'm now using Tusky that seems much better.
