Feels oddly cozy over here
@mollyjongfast Is there a trick to finding people via the search function? Entering usernames in the search bar is pretty unpredictable up to now. Wondering if I’m missing something.
@MisterWells @mollyjongfast is does feel pretty daunting when the system doesn't just throw recommendations at you. I tend to find it best to look at who the people you are following are themselves following. I think the search and federated functions are largely based on your local instance and your follow list. If the people you are looking for have an official website which links to their Mastodon account, that's about the best that you can get a "verified" account for that person.
@nickistre @mollyjongfast thanks! Yeah, I’m pretty used to doing the “find-out-who the people I follow are following” thing. I was more wondering whether there was a trick to finding people who I follow on Twitter by the username that they themselves published. Some accounts are popping up in the results right as I type them, some not.

@MisterWells @mollyjongfast yeah, you'd probably need the full @[username]@[servername] for their account. But it's a problem if they didn't provide the server part, and it's possible the server they are on are being slammed, making the search request difficult.

Early pains of a new-to-people service.
