good advice:
"If you leave Twitter, I recommend you DO NOT delete your account. All old tweets @ mentioning you will still exist and if someone grabs that now available username then all tweets @ referencing that username now point to them."

Twitter
toot! I meant toot! 😂
@thinkStory this makes sense, but I can’t say I’m not disappointed that I won’t be able to revel in hitting that delete button once and for all
@thinkStory there are journalistic reasons not to as well. #rubbernecking
@thinkStory old usernames are locked afaik. I joined originally in 2008. I deleted my account a couple of years later but when I eventually rejoined I was unable to create a new account with that same name. Not in use, just locked.
@thinkStory good point! Pay attention!
@thinkStory better yet just use your "old account" to directly troll rocketboy until you get banned. #StrongTogether
@thinkStory I really wonder if this is true. I will test it, but I don’t believe it. Yet.
@barend I just feel like the whole infrastructure over there is going to break in ways that we cannot even predict. So keeping control of your own thing rather than leaving all together to me seems like the most prudent course for now. Once you’re out all your data is probably at their mercy. And just writing that I’m realizing my trust for the bird is at an all-time low!
@thinkStory I think all of our data has always been at theire mercy, not just now, and that is not only the case for Twitter. It is more important now then ever, is my opinion, to really leave the hatebird-site with as many people as possible.
@thinkStory I made my twitter account private. So far so good. Any idea how I can link my twitter & mastodon accounts so the bio info travels over here?
@NebraskaRedRose I wonder if you can do anything like that if you're private now. Hm. Keep looking on the timeline here, though, people are constantly posting cool tools they've found. But if you just want your bio, maybe copy and paste would be easier?
@thinkStory Respectfully disagree. Keeping your account open signals your support for the platform.
@thinkStory Also a good idea to lock when you are ready to leave. Also at least take a twitter archive while you still can.

@thinkStory This tweet is a HOAX.It is technically nonsens and practically a big security risk.

Massive Twitter data breach was far worse than reported, reveal security researchers

A massive Twitter data breach last year, exposing more than five million phone numbers and email addresses, was worse than initially reported. We’ve been shown evidence that the same security vulnerability was exploited by multiple bad actors, and the hacked data has been offered for sale on the dark web by several sources. It had […]
