Out of all the internet platforms I've joined back to the 1990s, they all languished empty and obscure for years before anyone I know shows up.

But this week's influx is unlike any I've seen elsewhere. Dozens of familiar #ottawa accounts in 5 days.

The forces pushing people away from Twitter are unique. Few were running to email to escape the phone company in 1996

@johnefrancis Just yesterday I was saying how I could foresee my twitter use going down to nothing, eventually, as more and more people came on to mastodon. Eventually seems to have become today. There's a massive uptick in people and community and posts, like nothing I've ever seen before.
