I sincerely hope that the Twitter takeover by Elon Musk and the subsequent massive user migration to alternative media such as Mastodon will initiate the downfall of tech giants having way too much influence in the public debate.

@lucvanderzandt I'd hope so, but I'm expecting the focus to lie solely on the "takeover" bit, where Musk's fault is that he reached to far, that he's alien to the company.

Whereas heroic founders obviously got a divine vision of how things should go with their own inventions.

@mhd That would be the main framing of why people are leaving Twitter, sure. But I'm hoping the gained popularity of e.g., Mastodon, would change the public opinion.

@degenhno too much credit imo. I think the downfall of tech giants, if that were to happen, would more so be an effect of people realizing how things can be organized differently.
