@jerry How much hardware do you need to keep things snappy right now? Interacting with users on your instance is nice, vs the "official instance" where things are so sluggish!

@cirriustech for once, I got out ahead of that problem - the server is sitting almost idle. Last time there was a mass exodus from twitter, I was running the site in a VM and things didn't go so well. I moved to a pretty substantial bare metal system (16 core AMD zen3, 128GB ram, 8TB of NVME storage). I suspect the next move for me is to offload images to a CDN so that most of the larger content is served closer to where people are...

@g I did, and that was the result of a painful lesson early this year when I had a big influx of people and the server fell apart. I had an intuition that it would happen again, so I overcorrected, but I can now see that I’ll have to start scaling out the environment (splitting DB onto separate system, etc)
