Youtube pays its content producers, and Musk wants to charge blue checkmarks $8/month? LoL
@seattleiteleo I thought it was $20/month
@drhirsute He was "negotiating" with Stephen King and the new figure is $8/month. Even if it's $20/month, it's still barely 1% of Twitter's revenue.
@seattleiteleo and still $8 more than someone should have to pay for people to have confidence they are actually the person they say they are.
@drhirsute Exactly. Twitter, like YouTube, should be paying their content producers, especially the verified expert content producers.
@seattleiteleo I think John Scalzi made a salient point: Twitter's content producers are the product they are selling, not the customers they are marketing to. While there are still enough people willing to give them product for free, they don't have much incentive to pay anyone.
@drhirsute And that will soon change and Musk would have a fun awakening. Stephen King and the likes will leave as soon as Musk wants to charge. King is much more valuable to Twitter than Twitter is valuable to him.
