Some tips I was given yesterday, of what you can change in *account preferences*.

1) Unsure what images etc. you should hide - toggle the top one to always mark your media as sensitive.

You can then choose to unhide select media as you post, rather than having to remember to hide sensitive items or things you are just unsure on.

Or as I am, just hide all until you get a vibe of those around you and an understanding of basic etiquette here.
👍

2) Aren't easily offended/don't want to have to click to show hidden content all the time.

Toggle the second from bottom to always show sensitive media, and the bottom one to always show posts with content warnings, but remember ⚠️

These will show you EVERYTHING and if you toggle either of these to on, it is ON YOU to move on and mute/block people if they post things you don't like, as quite often things will be marked sensitive for good reason..

DON'T lecture or shame people for posting something you disagree with or don't like that they have posted with content warnings or hidden media and that you are only seeing because of your preferences 🤗

3) I believe it is etiquette here to caption your media with text, briefly describing what the media shows - for people with visual difficulties.

Enjoy y'all ✌️✌️

*Repost because i just broke my thread seeing how delete and re-draft would affect it*

Partly, this post was for me to have a play with things myself..

I am using the Tusky app for Android, so the interface may be a bit different, but here's what I've done:

To caption my image - I clicked the little A✔️ symbol that is in blue, select *enter caption* then enter my description and hit *ok*.

Then there are these symbols here.

🌏 Use the globe symbol to choose who you would like to be able to view your post - Public / Unlisted / Followers Only / Mentioned (@) Users Only

👁 Eye symbol or Eye symbol with a line through it - The line designates whether your media is hidden or not:

Open Eye - Your media is not hidden.

Eye w. Line - Your media is hidden behind a sensitive content warning.

Remember to mark your media as sensitive if required, or if you are unsure.. why not 🤷‍♂️

In my case, I have *mark all media as sensitive* selected in my account preferences - So, I will need to unmark if I want my media to be shown.

🗨⚠️ Speech bubble with exclamation mark in it - This sets whether your post has a content warning or not.

💭 If it is in grey, you don't have a content warning set.

🗨 If it is in blue, you have a content warning set.

In this case, I have set a content warning on this post, just to say it is long and to not clog up people's timelines - One of the many ways you can use this to be respectful of other people 😉

I forgot to set captions for my images in that post - So, I used the handy *Delete and re-draft* feature.

You get to this by clicking the *3 horizontal dots* at the bottom right of your post, then selecting *Delete and re-draft*.

This is great as it deletes and provides you with a copy of your post as it was posted, for you to easily edit and make any changes you would Ike 🤗

*As I just learnt, if you do this on a comment further up your thread, it will break it though*

Back to content warnings..

Once you click the speech bubble with exclamation mark in it (💭❗️/⚠️) to add a content warning - A second text line will show up.

You can input what your content warning is or just a description of what you have hidden/why you have hidden it.

In my case I entered *that my post is long and it is tips for new users*.

Anything you have entered into this section will show for everyone and everything below this section, people will have to click *show more* to see.

And if you are responding to a post with a content warning, or your own thread with a content warning, it will automatically hide your content under the same warning, unless you unselect the content warning icon, and change it from *blue* back to *grey* 😉

If you are responding about a particular topic and the original poster has chosen to hide their discussion behind a content warning, you are probably best to leave it though 🤗

Okay Bye, Y'all Come Back Now, Ya Hear 👋
