Hey, I remembered my login for this, again. Still trying to decide if I go to mastodon.nz or cloudisland, I kinda like the idea of something NZ-based? Give me your thoughts! Until then I'll just follow back whomever until I find a permanent place.
@bootstheory I’ve had mastodon.social for a while now, but I’m wondering if I can change to mastodon.nz … still trying to understand instances.
@sarahhbickerton @bootstheory There's been at least one person who felt unsafe because of the behaviour of an admin on mastodon.nz, they migrated to cloudisland and I'm considering doing the same. I know and trust the admins of cloudisland, have no idea who the admins of mastodon.nz are.
@sarahhbickerton Hey, please let me know your conclusions about that which instance thing, if you're willing. (I can see it's a bit lumpy searching the mastodon.nz server from the .social one ... ) Thx -P
@PeterAranyi Yeah, people seem split mostly between the .nz and the .social ones.
@sarahhbickerton @PeterAranyi do you have to create a new account on the instance you want to move to, and then migrate the current account to it?
@ShakingStick @PeterAranyi Will admit, don’t quite know the mechanics yet.

@sarahhbickerton @bootstheory
Mastodon.social is and will always be overstuffed, and because of this, loosely moderated and plagued by server overload when it gets busy.

Other options:

* Get a few folks together, with at least one geeky friend, create your own new instance, and set your own house rules

* Get a free account on mastodon.nz, mastodon.nzoss.nz, or pixelfed.nz (for photo+blogging)

* Pay to join cloudisland.nz

@bootstheory I was on mastodon nz but moved to cloud island
@bootstheory NZ based is good. I moved to mastodon.nz from another instance and this feels more like "home". Cloudisland.nz seems like good idea, especially for those interested in tech or security. Probably more of us on MNZ because Free is a lower level of commitment. And better fit for those on limited budgets too

@bootstheory Cloud Island is NZ owned & all your data is stored in NZ. Aurynn’s a great admin. It’s great having a responsive admin who looks out for her people.

A lot of people choose MNZ bc it’s free.

I hope you’re starting to turn a corner & will feel brighter soon.
