I got asked this by a few different journalists today, so I'm just going to share the numbers. 10,801 people signed up on different Mastodon servers today, and 22,139 since last week.
@dusnm @vaelfonia @Gargron to be entirely certain how small of a drop this is.
Twitter had 206 million users before Elon's takeover
Reddit has 450 million
TikTok around 1 billion, roughly 700 million are real
Instagram 1.5 billion
Facebook 3.5 billion users
And this is not registered but active users.

Well, if we are comparing it to twitter, its actually decent for 1 day.
It's more a testament to how small twitter is compared to the rest.
The average person doesn't really use twitter or mastodon.
