The Billionaire and the Anarchists

We trace Twitter from its grassroots origins as a protest tool for activists to Elon Musk's acquisition—sketching a history of the capitalist takeover of the internet in microcosm in order to strategize for the future.

@CrimethInc the article is good but pllllllleeeeeaaassseeee stop embedding tweets in your articles Crimethinc!!

You are directing your readers TO Twitter to 'find out more' or validate some part of your story. You are just feeding the Twitter machine AND giving Twitter a bunch of tracking data on your readers.

Not to mention how silly it'll look when the day comes that those embedded tweets are just broken links.

Take a screenshot and link to the tweet if it is super relevant?

@CrimethInc

Please look at this and think about. An embedded tweet of someone's take on a wapo article. Wapo is often paywalled. If I want to engage with the tweet , or even read all the replies, I'll be prompted to sign up to Twitter. Nevermind that by loading the page twitter has already logged my viewing of the embedded tweet. And WHAT does it even add to the article?

@CrimethInc and just so I'm not unfairly picking on you all (seriously, love for crimethinc forever ❤) I'm tagging @igd_news cause you all do this regularly too (but I also still love you too ❤)
