Hey #newbies! Don't worry about how mastodon works. Just join and play. Don't worry about what 'instance' (server) you can swap later. Just come and chat. No algorithm, no suggested stuff, no ads, just us!

Toot = tweet
Boost = retweet
Star = star
Bookmark = bookmark

Added excitement, content warnings for scary shit and NSFW shit. Oh and image descriptions and the choice to hide images.

@Tattooed_mummy Everyone's switching toots for tweets, tout suite.
@Tattooed_mummy what happens if your instance dies/goes down/gets taken over by a billionaire? Any chance of losing your account and having to start over?
@Tattooed_mummy
Have definitely missed you in the other place since The Event. Really hope this place takes off properly in terms of user base.
@Tattooed_mummy lets not forget about Twitter = Birbsite :D
@Tattooed_mummy Are quotetoots a thing?
@PavelASamsonov @Tattooed_mummy not on Mastodon, but some fediverse clients have quotes, like Misskey and I believe Pleroma
@Tattooed_mummy Thanks! One big Q I have: Where would I find the instructions for adding image previews for links? They seem to not work at all on the iOS app, but even on the web version I see the spot for the image but don't know how to add the image itself.
@Tattooed_mummy For instance, in this toot (really? that makes it sound like a fart, no?), there's a blank spot for the thumbnail; just wondering how to add the thumbnail itself on my site...I assume it would be similar to meta name="twitter:image" but using a different tag? Thanks!
@charlesgaba @Tattooed_mummy I haven't tested this or confirmed in docs, but it should be using the meta og:image property address. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66439732/using-open-graph-meta-tags
Using Open Graph meta tags

I am using Open Graph meta tags in my HTML code but I am not sure about its(og:image) property with following content: This are my codes: <meta property="og:title" content="Donya

Stack Overflow
@ellesaurus @Tattooed_mummy LOL yep, I figured that out separately as well...I think I can take it from here, thanks!
@Tattooed_mummy as I watch the Federated Timeline update at the most rapid pace I've ever seen it.
@Tattooed_mummy Brand-new from Twitter. Just wanted to make note of your advice to hop in and figure it out later. Thanks.

@Tattooed_mummy Hey, I'm wondering, is the "Star"/"Favourite" the same as a Twitter like?

Thanks!

@Tattooed_mummy what’s the difference between a star and a bookmark? They appear to do the same thing - stick an entry in the Favs or Bookmarks list.
