Lets do a 🧵on 🧵 with fact checks / alt perspectives on #ONDC - as you will never hear anything but PR by ecosystem cheerleaders.

Firstly, is NOT "Government's E-Com project" Its a quasi state PRIVATE non-profit company.

By creating a single network for e-commerce - it creates a monopoly data pipe - where all e-commerce demand data is available - by location. The availability of this data is like @NPCI_NPCI payments metadata of *ALL* non-card transactions.

Please don't take the 'alternative to global giants'. That is just a plank to get more electoral bonds / partner investments.

Remember - *EVERY* global giant invested in Jio Platforms in 2020. #ONDC will eventually make small merchants as delivery agents

The Government launched the ONDC in April as an alternative to dominant global giants and to empower India's rapidly growing e-commerce market.

The sole tom-tom factor seem to be "app of choice". As if that is the differentiator people seek the most. May be tech bros in Koramangala are concious about React Vs Vue for buying salt and will like this killer feature.

How can one simultaneously help small business and unicorn platforms? The only thing that is happening is explosion to data to everyone. See UPI example 👉🏽 https://twitter.com/i/status/1324958058330484736

Currently, Mystore, Paytm, and Spicemoney are live as buyer platforms on ONDC in Bengaluru.

Companies like Flipkart, Reliance Retail, Amazon, Dunzo, Zomato etc are also expected to join the ONDC Network too.

The 'pilots' are done to get a graph with slope of 1 to get the 'growth narrative' set - and then start 'exponential growth' phase. Any and all issues will not be spoken about - just like how #UPI till date has not published fraud data even after 6 years.

Demand data of all sizes and shapes will be at stake. Watch these sectors crumble with mandatory digital tax imposed to survive. Your cost of these services will go up.

Because - beyond a point - its harder to double cross urban buyers and sellers, we would need Indian language support.

RT @Ravisutanjani
ONDC will also empower our Startup ecosystem with more apps in Indian languages,

the focus would be on small business owners and rural consumers. This will all encourage healthy competition.

This will make credit cost embedded on all FMCG and make it costlier to buy without credit ,just as how its pointless to buy laptop without EMI offer - as you never get a cash discount. Doing this for all FMCG - will create inflation (but growh for banks)

Sellers will handle deliveries through the tie-ups with logistics firms. ONDC will also have services like accounting and payment processors etc. for sellers.
