On many Japanese toilets, the hand wash sink is attached so that you can wash your hands and reuse the water for the next flush. Japan saves millions of liters of water every year doing this.

Strange Japanese toilets with paper. Usually they don't use that but (hot) water streams.

That's a myth. Many toilets in Japan are not fitted with water washing.

@solar10 Not much actually. During use the amount of water used this way is low, and that picture an overdramatization.
