I’m reading Edly’s Music Theory and I’m struggling with the generation of key sigs based on most recent flat/sharps. Short of memorizing the silly mnemonics I need a better and slower walkthrough of the concept. Any suggestions?
@jessicakelly @io Io, do you have any suggestions for my pal? 👆

@c_reider @jessicakelly I don't know that text but does it talk about the circle of fifths?

1. Move up a perfect fifth, add a sharp (or remove a flat)
2. Move down a perfect fifth, add a flat (or remove a sharp)

The neat thing is that each sharp you add will also be a perfect fifth above the last one (F# C# G# etc.). Similarly, each flat you add will be a fifth below (or fourth above) the last one (Bb Eb Ab etc.). If you know this you don't need any mnemonics! I hope this makes sense!

@c_reider @io circle of fifths is coming up in a few chapters but should I skip ahead? Im on an ebook so I’m unable, tonight at least, to do the workbook exercises that might cause everything to click. Im gonna track down a notebook tomorrow for working through the concepts by hand
