James SmithThe #metaverse seems like a new thing. Suddenly, everyone is thinking about online presence and how it’ll be all 3D and cool and like real life. Some of us grew up escaping real life by going to early text-based metaverses, like MUDs and BBSes. We don’t want to be in a metaverse that reminds us of our day to day life. Give me a good, solid narrative over crappy graphics any day.
Even the #fediverse is a type of #metaverse. We can be ourselves here in a way we might not be in real life. We can reach across instances, join different conversations worlds away. Even have multiple personas if we want. We can spin stories, participate in adventures. We curate our experience in a way that’s not possible (or difficult at best) with places like the bird site. We are the shapers rather than the shaped. That is agency. It’s also #pridemonth , a good time to celebrate agency.
