Dangerzone: I wonder if replacing hardware-enforced VMs (Qubes TrustedPDF) with containers is a good idea. There are some security features you can't simply emulate with a standard OS; "write an app for it" doesn't solve the problem.

For deep Qubes integration I suspect @micahflee would also favor an approach that relies on a separate disposable VM to handle the sanitization.
