2022 United Kingdom monkeypox outbreak - Wikipedia

tl;dr: There’s a small outbreak of monkeypox with ~30 cases confirmed in the UK, US, Canada, Spain and Portugal. There appears to be ongoing community transmission (i.e. there are cases which cannot be traced to another case) in the London area.

Monkeypox is usually transmitted from (non-human) animals to humans. It can transmit between humans, but it’s not very contagious. The virus responsible for the outbreak is of a less deadly variant with a case fatality ratio of around 1%.
