Recently, in my school district, now that the anti-maskers have had to quiet down, they found something new to go after: LGBTQ kids.

They've shown up at 3 consecutive school board meetings attempting to put forward actions to ban LGBTQ-positive books, ban the mention of LGBTQ students or parents, or ban even the right for a kid or change their personal pronouns or name for teachers to acknowledge them.

This is not how decent people act. This is not supported by the community, itself.

Needless to say, this situation got back to the kids, cruelly upsetting many.

Their response was to create, manufacture, and distribute these signs. They did it.

There's a lot of bad in the world right now and a lot of hate being directed at LGBTQ people. I wanted to share that there are lots of people who see and support you.

@YinzPittsburghers I just want to make sure I read this right: the kids themselves thought of this? It’s a beautiful statement of the power and importance of visible community support either way, and I’m so glad you shared this.

ppl there were rlly confused abt me but they were still kind and tried their best to be supportive (for the most part)
and there was a week every year that the GSA covered the lawn with signs

@YinzPittsburghers @raphaelmorgan Just to clarify, I wasn’t doubting or calling it into question. Quite the opposite: I wanted to commend them for such a beautiful act of love. My brain just got a little twisted up by the wording in the post. I wasn’t sure if “their response” meant the community’s response in support of the students or the students’ response in support of both each other and the wider community. It read like it could have been either one to me, so I wanted to make sure I was reading it as intended. Re-reading my own comment though, I do sound kind of incredulous, but that wasn’t how I intended it. My brain’s too tired to communicate good. 😅
