New iOS app release is waiting for Apple review! It adds a community timeline and fixes sign-up errors not being shown and servers being listed in the wrong order during onboarding.

@Gargron i feel like "instance timeline" makes more sense than "community timeline"

like, the whole point is building a community, is it not ?

@violet I'm not sure how A follows from B here. It sounds like your last paragraph is in favour of naming it community timeline. (Also, "instance" is an outdated term. We've been using "server" for years now)
@Gargron @violet
that was not how i understood the situation.
as i understand things...

instance is the individual and server is the type.

server being 'misskey', 'mastodon', etc...
instancing being 'stop.voring.me', 'mastodon.social', etc...
@logan @violet No, Mastodon and Misskey are software, and mastodon.social is a server. Instance is object-oriented-programming jargon, and while server is still a technical term it's a lot more ubiqutous. And I'm steering away from local for the same reason: localhost is not familiar to most people.
@Gargron @violet
ok so me and you have very much differing understandings than, i think this is fine though of course.

this is how i see it...

yes servers are software but
mastodon and misskey are servers and mastodon.social is an instance of mastodon server.

and the object-oriented part is correct to my understand but not necessarily the programming.
instance really just means 'one of' in a sort of way.

to say an instance of maston server is to say one of mastodon servers.
@logan @violet You are correct in understanding where the initial nomenclature comes from, but I am explaining to you why we do not use those words anymore. (I've also been here for a long time and never heard anyone refer to "Mastodon" as a server, although it is server software)
@Gargron @violet

it's the wording i would use, it makes things match up very nicely with other services.

gmail is an instance of email server.
for example.
you probably missed when i explained to someone using this terminology but this is understandable , you cannot be in all place always.
@logan @violet Your bio says you are a programmer, please understand that you may have a bias in which words you find intuitive to understand.
@Gargron @violet
I do more than just programming but i do see the point.

but what i find intuitive does not really change the words.
