I technically do have a Tumblr. I made it so I could enter a raffle for a special Welcome to Night Vale session at Dashcon, which feels very zero-to-sixty-in-2013.

I didn't win the raffle but I did buy a Dashcon + special WTNV stuff ticket. Back when they were first announced, WTNV had no tour announced and hadn't ever performed outside of Brooklyn, so it seemed like my best chance to see them. (I live about 150km from Schaumburg, Dashcon's venue city, which is Midwestern close.)

I completely forgot that I had bought this until the week before the con. I really didn't want to spend any more money on the excursion, having already seen WTNV live a couple times in the interim on their first tour.

So I concocted a very low-cost attendance plan: cycle to a campground on Friday, camp out, cycle into Schaumburg on Saturday for that good good con stuff and the WTNV panel and back to the campground to sleep, and cycle home on Sunday.

I had a very nice cycle out to Lake Geneva, WI (around 110km I think?) and stayed in the absolute buggiest, most awful swamp campground I've ever experienced. I kipped out early after a big dinner and missed all of the... *waves hand* Dashcon on Friday night, sound asleep between the cattails.

The next day I had really horrible knee pain and I decided not to take the long red into Schaumburg. I spent a good chunk of the day in a brewpub obsessively following the Dashcon shit storm on Twitter

On reading about the WTNV panel being canceled I dropped the full pint I was holding onto the bar, which splashed out and coated me in malty delicious amber. I had only one set of clothes so for the rest of the weekend I smelled DELICIOUS. Probably a better time than if I'd attended 😸

The huge thunderstorm that night did inspire some regret in me. My campsite was totally wooded over and being killed by a falling tree after failing to attend a failing convention would be such a dumb way to die.

Anyway, once I got back home the next day (knee just needed a day off and a bunch of ballpit memes I guess) I bought dashcon2015.com and put up a static site that said "NOTHING IS HERE. NOTHING WAS EVER HERE."

And that's the story of (1) my Tumblr and (2) the second MirageOS unikernel to run in the public cloud.

@yomimono this is an amazing story. 😂 I *almost* went to DashCon just for WTNV but ultimately decided not to.
@pursuitofnerdiness and you got to see just as much WTNV as most of the people who went!
