@[email protected] what the hell???
@kayden Yeah, group hacked Nvidia sometime last week and made off with quite a bit.
@[email protected] god if this actually happens 😭
i kinda doubt they will tho, because if the chipsets leak then they can just sue anyone who uses it out of oblivion
@kayden nah, it still gives groups massive leverage especially if details of the firmware signing get 'reversed'
@allison while I like the gusto this will probably do more damage towards the cause of open sourcing nvidia drivers. But maybe cheap decent Chinese gpus will become a thing.
@travis I see a couple of outcomes here, none particularly good for Nvidia. Whatever plans they already have in place to open up are doubtlessly going to accelerate because of this move even if not to the full extent the leakers are demanding
@allison leaks like this in the past didn’t really lead to met demands but rather lucrative law suits for the affected company. I really don’t see much happening other than Chinese shops profiting and any one backwards engineering aspects of the nvidia gpu getting sued into oblivion even if they never looked at the leaks. Maybe I’m wrong I dont know not a legal expert or a chip fabricator.
@travis Well there's limited past precedent we can go off of here, AMD's Navi source leaked sometime last year or the year before to relatively little fanfare and effect. That being said, I don't think you can draw a direct comparison with the Navi situation because it was primarily Microsoft's concern and AMD for their part was already doing clean room Linux drivers for their newer chips for nearly a decade by that point.
@allison @gmate8 remember that wallpaper I made yesterday
@vl1 @allison LMFAO
NO WAY
Twist: they only hacked Nvidia so they would make open source drivers lol
Plot twist: it was Linus Torvalds and his son
@allison noveau devs cringing in horror
@libc "oh ffs we've come this far and now you have to throw us *this* curveball?!"
@allison Holy shit, this is wild! It’s like a bunch of nerds watched Fight Club and decided to hack a graphics vendor.
@sean Wouldn't be the first time either
@allison is this legit?
@joe The hack at least is, Nvidia confirmed it a few days back
@allison forced open source 🤣
@cybertelx everyone loves a little blackmailing, as a treat
@allison they should do it anyway
@allison The Dark Nerd Rises
@allison Ransomware gangs are going to be the reason we finally get a Linux driver
@allison Ironically if nvidia complies my next gpu may be one of theirs
