@glitchwitch is it really tho? Only other use of “spook” I know of outside of “frighten” is to in reference to govt spies.

@Illegalndn @glitchwitch i have heard reference to it being a racial slur over the years but i don't think it's a very common one but don't quote me on that

either way, it does have multiple meanings of no relation so it's highly contextual imo

again, i am certainly not an authority on this but i think it's like the word "red" in that in can be a slur in a certain context but has a lot of other meanings too

if that makes sense?

@Arcana @Illegalndn It was used as a racial slur in English, but only briefly. Stirner's use of it predates the slur as the slur didn't exist in the 1800s, and the slur doesn't exist in other languages where spook and its variations refer to ghosts, phantasms, etc.
@Illegalndn it was briefly used as a slur in the US in the early 1900s. But.... Stirner is German where that slur doesn't exist, esp in the 1800s
@glitchwitch gotcha. Do any of y’all know which race it is used against?
And don’t worry, I’m not worried about stirner’s awareness or use of, just curious of the validity of the meme’s claim.
