"I don't want to be one of those girls who only has guy friends. I should have more girl friends!"

*gets a bunch of girl friends*

*over the next decade, they all transition into men*

thinking back on it.... the women who complain about girls who are "not like the other girls, who only have guy friends" just bothered me. sometimes GNC girls would make their little "other girls vs me" comics, which would then be derided by feminists as internalized misogyny. but i think claims of internalized misogyny are actually a reaction against gender nonconformity or eggs who were just trying to express their formative experiences.
like, it's the same feminists who thought The Hawkeye Initiative was a good way of tackling sexist depictions of female superheroes.... it wasn't. Chastising the "not like the other girls" girl and laughing at men being effeminate is just anti-GNC sexism.
@alexlaw on a related note I feel like an aspect of this argument that was always left out was how the media depictions of “not like other girls” were always just as much a male fantasy as the “other girls” were, manic pixie dreamgirls and such, but those kinds of feminists always wanted to blame the “not like other girls” girls for that aspect of how they were depicted over questioning WHY they were depicted that way and to whose benefit
