If you run a business, and if you're not super rich and powerful, you kind of have to obey the law if the police knocks at your door.
What they can and could have done, is to appeal to court in defense of the climate justice movement. If such an appeal would win the opinion of a judge is secondary.

Since any court process is a spectacle about power and authority, taking position in solidarity with the climate justice movement helps to build power towards climate justice.
