This is class solidarity for you, take notes.

You may misunderstand how the "checks and balances" work (I'm also far from an expert though, not even American). Somebody leaked personal information, that's illegal and that law has to be enforced. If we would only decide to enforce laws because we feel like it, we wouldn't have a functioning executive branch.

It's the job of the legislative branch (aka politicians) to make laws that would prohibit being disgustingly rich and pay no taxes.

Don't be mad at the DOJ, be mad at your representatives. Only the leaker broke the law and that's the real problem.

@Vurt_Konnegut this must be the most tone-deaf take EVER shared on the fediverse

@antanicus Maybe there's a misunderstanding here, English is not my native language:

It's horrible that the leaker is being targeted. I'm very much a supporter of Snowden as well, but the DOJ is not at fault here, it's their job to prosecute because of existing laws. I'm all about channeling this anger and energy at the right people.

We have to be angry at the House, the Senate and the President (former and current) that these laws even exist or have yet to be changed. This is a systematic issue that's not solved by making exceptions. There should be something like real whistleblower protection and a tax code that forces billionaires and mega corps to pay their fair share (or let's just make being a billionaires impossible, nobody needs to be that rich).

Oof, I just checked your profile, now I get it 🙈
