Read a lot about Honduran history today. Wondering what happened to all the germans who were expelled after WW1 and WW2. Specially interested in the role of Palestinian business interests in decision to expel them.
Apparently my dad grew up in a german majority town off the southern coast of Honduras. Apparently Albert Einstein visited the Island, but it isn't clear whether he actually left the boat at all. My mom jokes maybe he knocked up a local.
Also thinking about the Palestinian diaspora in general. The diasporas in Chile and Honduras are very affluent, even considered the uncontested elite in the latter. Makes me wonder what the socioeconomic elites look like in every country of Latin America. Palestinians are basically white in Honduras.
"In the 1920s, the proposal for a new miscegenation appeared, which tried to provoke the biological mixture of Honduran peasants and indigenous people with Scandinavian, German, French and English citizens. This would be the means to build a new race of Honduran entrepreneurs, hardworking, honest, respectful of the laws, among other things, morally faultless and physically beautiful."
Tell me this isn't the cringiest thing you've read today. Racial self-hatred is such a deeply embedded cultural phenomenon and structurally manifested part of Honduran society. Yet, people pretend that racism doesn't exist in Honduras.
