@amerika @a_lizard racism is an easy thing to hate, but we really only see it fought against in very privileged and civilised societies where fighting racism should really be considered in a more institutional/socioeconomic/systemic light, not "wahh 13 unarmed black people were killed in 2019 by police in the US so I'm gonna destroy billions in property and hunt and kill and harass and hurt anyone right of center-left". "Racism is bad" we quite already know, this isn't some grand statement, it's on par with South Park's "drugs are bad" but a worse version intended to cause divide and sow discord between different races, ideologies, and social classes.
@coyote really swallowing the kool aid huh
@a_lizard speak for yourself, do some introspection, saying "racism bad" is just weak social signaling
@a_lizard you don't even have good intentions to that post, you won't do anything to actually end racism so it's all bark with no teeth
@coyote how do you know
@a_lizard I know, the only thing bootlickers like you are capable of is entering a group and destroying a city block. let me ask you this, what makes you think racism is a credible threat in the western world? The media companies, tech companies, and world governments have denounced such a thing, so how could such a small minority of the population be such a threat? And you think I'm the kool aid drinker.. Hey did you know more people were murdered in CHAZ while it was around than unarmed innocents were murdered by police in all of 2019? Kinda makes the left with your racism and nazi boogeymen look like the violent ones. You cry "Fascist" while you make lists of undesirables and get them fired, get their banks to close their accounts, and often times hunt and assault and even murder them. This only proves the whole thing to be hypocrisy.
@coyote @a_lizard "uwu u weftists awe meanies onwine! u__u u dun wet me be a kwansman wifout cawwing me a doodiehead & using my fuww name. 😢 I'm tewwing senpai on u!"
@Communismrules @a_lizard the sad reality is instead of doxxing these people you could be more like Daryl Brown (maybe that's his name?) and scalping multiple literal klansmen for their uniforms just by being friendly with them, I think he has like 6 outfits. I'm a hypocrite by saying this, but that's the best way to do it, if we're talking "literally racists" then they are fairly easy to convince they are wrong, you just might have to be black or a minority to show them they are wrong. I grew up with a skinhead who eventually in HS started dating this black girl for years. I'm not saying "everyone is redeemable" but that most people for whom you are fighting could more easily have their minds changed with better ideas than theirs. That's how capitalism won in the end, and it's not even a perfect system..
@coyote I date someone who is a former rightist, but forgiveness rests on a desire to change, or at least upon an ability to feel some basic spark of empathy. As for what causes minds to change, it's not "better ideas." That has precious little to do with it. Look into heuristics some time, ideas are not accepted or rejected on the basis of some kind of objective quality ranking, but on their utility to the adopter.
@Communismrules I date a leftist currently :p Yeah, the heuristics of politics are terrible to me, that's why I think some opinions genuinely suck though is because they hinge on nothing but "does this benefit me and my in-group" while if we could move past this base and silly fighting, we could be joining the galactic federation (joke)... I really think being on the right is not something to need redemption from (I hope I'm not misinterpreting you) but real belief in racial superiority or inferiority is abhorrent. The sad fact of the reason black people commit so much violent crime is definitely in line with their lack of ability to get a decent upbringing and education, and that's the real racism today to me: the education system and class division. Also the judical/law system is literally unusable unless you can pay for a lawer (who can!?).. All of these racist machinations come from lack of! education in my eyes, and in my opinion many on the left and right agree that the education system creates disparity, but no one will do anything about it. That makes me sad. It also makes me sad that you might think a racist would not be able to redeem themselves if I'm reading you right, surely the person he was dating could see past it, I could see past it, I see no one else really needing to comment on it meaningfully besides her and the people involved.

@coyote That may sound nice, but somehow I get the feeling racist police (there are gangs within police departments of racist cops, this is a verifiable fact) aren't going to stop and ask a black person if they have a PhD before they decide to do some heinous shit to them. I know people in academia who have a hard fucking go of things economically, and don't exactly give off an "I'm in academia" vibe to them.

That's not even counting the atrocious history of forced education under colonialism.

@coyote My point is that the priorities here are backward. When the national guard was called in during the protests in Seattle and Portland over the summer, the very first thing they said was not "we're here to protect people," that came after they stated "we're here to protect property." They know where their priorities are, and it's not with people, it's with property, the infrastructure of the system which incentivizes them. In that sense, they are there primarily for self-preservation.
@coyote Rather than attempting to educate ourselves into a position in which we are exploitable in more arcane ways by some slightly more lucrative arm of capitalism (and let me tell you from personal experience that academic research in the hard sciences can be a total scam), our priorities must be, first and foremost, to people, and to ensuring they get what they need, because capitalism fails on that front continuously and by design.
@coyote Yes, that includes programs which will materially supply people with "wrong" ideas, shocker of shockers. Yes, some of those klansmen are dirt-poor and have had a horrible go of things economically. I wouldn't see them starve even if I also wouldn't blame anyone for blowing their head off in self-defense if they tried to start shit. It can both be true that I would see everyone fed and clothed and housed, and that I see no reason to make nice with reactionary ideologies.
@coyote We are all universally fucked by capitalism. It fucks us. Day in and day out we are utterly screwed over by this system which forces us into positions that we neither need nor want, which cuts us off from ourselves and which, in order to promote itself, degrades us in an ever-expanding infinity of ways. As much as I will not shed a tear over a dead cop or a dead racist, I am keenly aware that they are the hand, but the owning class is the head. I want to cut off the head.
