@thumb a good example of why we get told to ride away from parked cars and why drivers are told to leave more than just the minimum passing space.

Since 2018 the traffic code was updated here: under 50 kph (35 mph), drivers should keep a distance of 1 m (39 inches) from riding cyclists; above 50, 1.5 m (5 feet). Since most people can't remember those distances or can't gauge it, they give a wider berth than necessary; I'm always grateful for that!
I always scrutinize parked cars' windows when I ride besides them. It makes me nervous...
That cyclist was very lucky. 😱
