Youtube-dl getting taken down is bad, and a zillion mirrors instantly springing up is good and necessary, but how about:

-> stop using youtube
-> stop using github
-> stop giving money to RIAA members

@Coffee Despite its name, youtube-dl is (was?) useful for a lot of websites (Twitch, Soundcloud, DailyMotion, France.tv, PeerTube instances…).
@Coffee That would be a great world to live in, people with integrity.  But we know they are too weak and incompetent to figure out the alternatives even when it's right in front of them.

@Coffee how about :

-> stop playing with users' guilt
-> stop moralizing individuals
-> start tackling systemic problems

@Coffee

It works on other sites too btw. I use it a lot for pulling videos down that I have to clip out for a show I work on. Butyes, I agree on all these things.
@Coffee How about getting the message to artists as well who in the end are ones choosing this business model?

For some reason most of the time artists stay clear of copyright debate letting RIAA and friends take the heat while they are remaining cool guys and friends to everyone.
@Coffee Peertube is pretty good, but what it lacks most is not features, but ease of deployment. I - being a bit of a geek, run my own Peertube server, but my artistic and musical friends still put their works onto YouTube. It needs to be comparable in effort to setting up a YouTube Studio.
Packaging for Debian or Fedora would help, as most could afford a Freedombox or Raspberry Pi, but these also need to be easy for a musician to set up as a server at home.
