(this is, incidentally, two rabbit holes below the problem I discovered I needed to fix ASAP upon opening up my email this morning, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the project I _wanted_ to work on this morning)
Update: I got a build that passes its own testsuite, and can verify signatures with a manually imported key, but cannot talk to keys.openpgp.org.
guess what are the two (2) things I needed it to do
