Hey @ horror fans; I love watching bad horror movies, but does anybody have any Good horror movies to recommend? Not like classics, more like hidden gems that may not have shown in theaters?
I recently watched The Ritual which I actually really enjoyed! But since then the list has been NOTHING but cringe to laugh at, and I want to be Spooked I think!
@Sockeye Funny Games (both 1997 and 2007 are great, same director, shot for shot remake just 1997 is in austrian and 2007 is eng w popular eng actors) and if you haven't seen Bone Tomahawk imho its a horror must see
@annastinks Ill go check out the trailers; thank you for the suggestions! I'm VERY interested in the fact that the first one has a (I'm assuming) successful shot-for-shot remake 🤔🤔 That sounds SUPER interesting!
@Sockeye Yeah! The director, Michael Haneke, originally intended the film specifically for american audiences, but couldn't secure the support that early in his career. After making 2 of the best films of the 20th century so far in Caché and The Piano Teacher, he managed to secure funding for an english lang remake. They're both equally good, just different actors and the US vers is less visually grimy because more production value.
@annastinks With that in mind, I think both would be worth watching! Same story, but different experiences!!
@Sockeye If you like it, anyways! They're both blisteringly slow and horrifying in a kind of academic way. Definitely worth watching, just certainly not everybody's cup of tea. I like the acting in the 1997 austrian version a lot more, as much as I love Naomi Watts and Tim Roth.
@annastinks Even so, Ive been wanting to branch out a bit more! Im not as well versed in horror films as Id like to be.
Thank you very much for the suggestion, Ill be sure to check them out!
@Sockeye Absolutely! I'm a big movie girl, I love any time I can get to talk about them. :3
@annastinks If I super love them Ill come yell about it lmao
@Sockeye I think most everybody I know who's seen it super loved Bone Tomahawk, it's like a western acid horror. Hope you enjoyyy

@Sockeye sorry for the late reply, slept on it.

off the top of my head: The Collector (2009), Kristy (2014), Oculus (2014), The Lazarus Effect (2015), Fractured (2019).

The Collector has a fun sequel, but it gets goofy which you said you didn't want.

i used to marathon horror films and these stuck out. there's probably more, i just don't remember them. hope you enjoy!
