If you have to run out for last minute supplies like I did today I highly recommend tipping the cashiers or stockpeople . they are legit on the front lines of this shit and they don't typically make a living wage.
Having worked retail I know that some companies do not "allow" taking gratuities so you may have to insist.

One lady once wrapped a 100$ bill inside a $5 and slipped it into jacket pocket when she came over to thank me. I did not notice it wasn't just a $5 until later.

It made my week.

But she was smart and did it outside of view of cameras and managers, otherwise I would have had to refuse.
