it didn't occur to me until i saw it online that  and  are named after the bouba/kiki effect and i felt silly, i should have gotten that
and like. the bouba/kiki effect is about how elements of human language can have intrinsic, non-arbitrary meaning, which makes a lot of sense for a game like baba
well it's still arbitrary but like. universal
@monorail iwrc there's some doubt as to just how universal it is; there may have been bias in the famous initial study

@Felthry that's fair but it's definitely the common idea associated and it makes sense thematically for baba is you
@monorail that said, it's quite probable that some form of sound symbolism does exist in most if not all languages, so the possible nonuniversality of what that exact symbolism is doesn't particularly matter

@monorail its a weird thing bc i looked it up and i couldnt make any ounce of sense out of which shape would be bouba or kiki and it wasnt until i read the stats for the most common picks that i go "okay i guess that sort of makes sense but not really"

@monorail bouba being the rounded object makes sense to me because its a round sounding word so it goes to the round shape

might be a connection to the word "boba" as in boba tea

kiki being the sharp object i cannot comprehend though

@pupy that's interesting, both of them make absolute intuitive sense to me
@monorail like if i hadnt read the stats on the most common picks, my answer would be "neither"
@monorail for this exact reason, it really bugs me that keke isn't spiky.
