I was on the spot where #JamiaProtests March to parliament about #nocaanonrcnonpr was stopped yesterday between 4pm to 8pm near Holy Family Hospital. The first thing I noticed was the unprecedented level of police presence. Apprx 300-400 in CRPF, regular & riot gear

2.
Roads were blockaded and I entered from the side of the cops were on. A water canon was standing a level behind the barricades. The SHO(?) was speaking into a loudspeaker from the top of the barricade. DCP present. Lot of female cops. #JamiaProtest #nocaanonrcnonpr
Protestors and cops had reached a stalemate. I did some filming from this side and tried to get over the barricade. Failed.

Protestors were raising slogans. Cop was telling them to diffuse. Some live people were doing biased reportage. After an hour or so , cops let me pass over from the side.

#JamiaProtest

I spoke with #jamiaprotestors. Some students had been detained. Although there hadn't been a lathi charge per se there had been scuffles and manhandling of both male and female protestors when they were stopped. Women were upset about how the kids were hit, girls roughed up.

By 7:30, @[email protected] came to negotiate with the (SHO?) They asked for release of the detainees and permission for sansad march. By 8 the detainees were released and a verbal assurance was given of permission in 15 days #JamiaProtest

7.

Around 8 The @[email protected] asked protestors to diffuse and convene at gate no. 7. I boarded an electricalauto for #ShaheenBagh at 8:15

Bet 4-8pm I was there, I witnessed no gassing of any sort. I did not witness any violence from the protestors. They just stood their ground

8. Yest. I spoke to students admitted at Al-Shifa and others to establish facts. No eyewitnesses report of gas. Inconsistent hearsay based on haze in pictures, faintings, noone on the site after protest. DCP South East denies toxic gassing

DCP South East Delhi on Twitter

“"1/3" A section of the media has reported that some toxic chemical spray was used and injuries were inflicted upon some female protestors by police.. It is regretted that the concerned media houses have not even cared to enquire from the officials concerned and know @DelhiPolice”

9. There is ample consistency among students on the time, location, nature of injury, how they were hit, circumstances, verbal abuse out of communal bigotry in student reports and physical abuse including violent sexual abuse during manhandling.

“Thread on #PoliceBrutality at #JamiaProtests #SansadMarch 1. From my enquiries, the most horrendous finding is that some men of #DelhiPolice in manhandling the protestors are sexually harrassing them out of bigotry and as a dissuading tactic.”
