I was reading about #ledger #ledger-cli. It seems as a very sophisticated and efficient software. Is anyone using it for personal finances or is it an overkill?
It is released under the BSD license ;-)

@varchs I use it.

It works very well, The best part is the documentation, even if you don't end up using the software it is worth reading the documentation to get a feel for how accounting is supposed tot work.

The second best part is that I can keep the ledger in a revision control system.

The third best part is I can use standard unix tools and shell access to edit the files.

@ephemeris I read though a portion of the manual during the weekend. You are right, very well written documentation and very helpful. I will give it a try. I think #pettycash can make the task manageable.
I haven’t workin a revision control system but seems a very good idea. There is also an emacs mode for it.
Overall seems a good idea to work on!
