So im going to have a little bit of spare cash coming up and I would like to plump for a new solo board game. So here are two questions for you lot.

1) I have been thinking about scythe but it feels like it will take forever solo. Ling setup, long play, long pack up. How long in your experience does it take solo?

2) do you have any suggestions for great solos? Details in following toot

What I have enjoyed this year.

Blackstone Fortress.
Nemo’s War.
7th Continent.

What I look for in a solo. (Although they don’t have to tick all boxes)
Quick setup and pack away. Campaign.
Good feel of narrative.
Session length of about an hour.

Im really looking for next years big solo game that I can start and play in several sessions over the year or be an ongoing campaign. The perfect game would basically be a solo rpg in board game format. Any ideas?

Oh it looks like you want a game that occupies much more table space than I have @big_chip, so perhaps my recommendations aren't as useful.
@bignose oh no I don’t want something that takes up too much space as we don’t have it. Blackstone fortress barely fits on my table. Nemo’s War is just about the maximum size and even then I have to put bags of tokens on the floor. I can’t leave a game out set up either because of the table being our only one.

Not sure how long counts as long for you @big_chip, but I've quite enjoyed #Scythe because its setup is relatively simple and each turn is limited and therefore can't take too long.

The solo mode (an Automa, is what they call it) is very well designed too IMO.

When I play a solo Scythe game it's no more than a couple of hours, often less.

@bignose sounds like it might go on too long for me then. The perfect length for me is about an hour per session. Shame because it’s such a good game too.

With such a short time window, you'll be limited to those games that set up almost immediately. So a big campaign game isn't an option, I think.

#LegendaryEncounters #Firefly is somewhat at the upper limit of what you can fit in that time. But maybe you'll need to be satisfied with #RailroadInk or doing some Go puzzles!

Another solo game I am enjoying is #LegendaryEncounters #Firefly, a pretty good #deckbuilding game with excellent theme and pretty mediocre art :-)
