I heard on the radio this morning that the firefighters have been attending fires for the last 38 days straight. With no rain in sight, they may well continue until there's nothing left to burn.

The greater Sydney area is pretty much surrounded by national park. I don't know of any fires in the city itself, but they have been having a lot of problems with all the smoke.

@tetchey I went to a rally yesterday and heard that the NSW state gov just put on an extra 1500 new police officers... but the firefighter lack critical funding and equipment...
