Delhi Lawyers didn't do peaceful protests so why are JNU students standing and waiting for lathis to fall on them...

#jnu

@Dasbolshevik Are still a powerful lot.. can file cases, make life miserable; students do not have that fall back...
@KayKap true... but it is only those who have nothing to lose but their chains who will rise up and break their chains.
@Dasbolshevik Arms and legs are being broken, skulls will likely be too. They have a lot to lose... but they are persevering
@Dasbolshevik because the lawyers did not protest, they rioted, as compared to students who have real demands. And of course there are guerilla tactics, which sometimes even I wish students would go to, but I don't think the comparison with lawyers would be fare. But I would compare the reaction of the CRPF and police to students vs. the lawyers.
@Paridhigupta yup. and my point is exactly the guerrilla tactics and learning from actual unions on how to prevent getting killed by cops.
@Dasbolshevik it's also about when to use Guerrilla tactics, many times they are used as the absolute last resort, when the protester's identity and future has been completely taken away. Guerrilla tactics as this moment would also affirm the majority opinion of people that JNU students are hooligans. The protest is about countering that image as well for the moment. Also in an all student movement everyone may not agree to those tactics and might lead to reduced participation.

@Paridhigupta In a way the reason why the police force didn't react to the lawyers was because of the powerful people backing them. It was not the rioting itself that scares them.

Say it was the kid of Amit shah who was protesting. Would the police reacted the same way.(Just a idiotic Eg to highlight the point)

The government at survives on its image. Target the image and you will get that response.

@Dasbolshevik

@Vishsai @Dasbolshevik that is ofcourse true. It does depend on who is actually protesting, also so many people are actually okay with the beating up of JNU students, so the image of neither the police nor the government gets tarnished when that happens.

@Dasbolshevik

Simple:

Lawyers know how to handle the consequences whereas the poor students can't even afford a to pay lawyer to represent them.
