Slowly starting to work my way through Pitchfork’s massive “200 Best Albums of the 2010s” list. I was going to skip it until I saw they link to streams of each album.

Some great stuff on the list, and a lot of it I’ve never heard. https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/the-200-best-albums-of-the-2010s/

I think I'll post thoughts to this thread on the albums I come across on this list that I really like.

190. Huerco S: "For Those of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have)" (2016)

I vaguely remember hearing about this when it was released, but never took time to listen. It's about as abstract as I can tolerate in electronic music, and quite striking.

186. Various Artists: "Mono No Aware" (2017)

Interesting that the first two albums that have jumped out to me have been pretty abstract ambient albums. This one is layered and stylistically varied. Very good. https://song.link/album/i/1208099933

162. Sturgill Simpson: “Metamodern Sounds in Country Music” (2014)

70s country (Waylon Jennings, etc.) with psychedelic and outer-space themes. Really good! https://song.link/album/i/865795112

The thing I’ve learned the most from going through this list is that Pitchfork and I have WILDLY different ideas on what makes a “greatest album”. Like, almost everything on this is list is just… boring.
I suppose I should put my money where my mouth is and make my own greatest albums list. Stay tuned.
