one thing that bugs me: at least on chrome for android, there's no way to compress your pictures before sending them into a file upload

so posting pictures on mastodon turns into a really painful ordeal

not that i condone more js bloat but i wonder if there's some library that could be used to compress the images locally before uploading them?

@squ1rrel it would be really nice if pictures and videos could be compressed on upload cuz like it's a pain when oops I took that video at too high a resolution for too many seconds and I don't have a way to compress it so I gotta reshoot it

@shel @squ1rrel hmmmm yeah, probably should be a front end/client feature

but on the back end it's possible we could accept larger uploads and scale or re-encode them down to the file size limit

maybe?
